*** A few of us in the neighborhood wanted to do a fitness challenge - nothing too competitive, just a friendly way to motivate each other. The rules that were sent out to those involved are added below - if anyone is interested call the Rasband's or the Pratt's. We are getting started this weekend/next week - so join us! ***
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We all know that in theory weight loss is fairly simple - change your eating and exercise habits - eat less, exercise more. But still, there are still so many of us who aren't in the shape we would like to be in. We thought, for ourselves at least, the struggle is motivations and accountability.
This is where the challenge will help.
As a group we will motivate each other. By weighing in and reporting our weight, we are accountable to one another.
This is how the challenge will work
- First everyone will set a personal goal weight (we suggest your goal weight being in the "normal" category for you BMI).
- Then decide on a scheduled weight loss plan (we recommended 2 lbs per week - but, you make the rules for yourself).
- Everyone who wants to participate antes $20 to the pot in the beginning.
- Everyone must weigh in once a week on a qualified scale. We will have a "qualified" scale at the Rasband's house and a back up at the Pratt's house, if the Rasband's are not available. There will be a designated "window of weigh in" opportunity, each week when we will all weigh in (this can still be done privately with a witness). For those of you who cannot meet at the designated time - you may use your own scale as long as you have a witness to verify. BUT - you must weigh in on a qualified scale at least once a month.
- The first weigh in must be on a qualified scale.
- Once you reach your goal weight, you must maintain your goal weight until everyone has reached their goal weight.
- Those who do not keep up with their predetermined weight loss scheduled will have to re-ante into the pot $10 at the weigh in.
- Those who reach and maintain their goal weight will receive an equal share of what is in the pot.
- Those who give up you forfeit the money in the pot.
- The challenge ends once we all reach and maintain our goal weight.
Example
John weighs 200 lbs his goal weight is 170 lbs. His schedule weight loss is 2 lbs per week
John must weigh in every week, if John doesn't lose at least 2 lbs he can "re-commit" by giving $10 to the pot. Once John reaches his goal weight he must maintain at or below his goal weight. If he maintains his weight until the rest of the participants are at their goal weight, then he will get an equal share of the pot.
To Get Started
- Set your goal
- Determine your weight loss schedule
- Bring your goal, schedule and ante ($20) to the first weigh in
- You may weigh in anytime this week or weekend. Everyone must have anted in and weigh in on a qualified scale by Monday morning (the 10th).
- You may weigh in each week at your convenience, as long as one of the qualified scales is "home and available" - but since "weighing in" shouldn't take more then a few minutes, we think this can be done fairly easily.
- If you go more then 8 days between weigh-ins - you must re-ante $10.
- Each week an email will go out to all participant with the progress - who is staying on tract and who is needing a little help. We will do this in a non-offensive way - this is only to keep the accountability aspect and also so we can help each other as we go. Remember - we are in this together to help each other!
- If you have any questions or concerns please call Ryan and Reva Rasband.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!
